Recycled Record Album Christmas Tree

Here is some inspiration for you...Our Recyled Record Album Christmas Tree :)

It isn't quite finished yet, it needs some more balls and a topper, but you will get the idea! I have included some close up shots of the "construction" of it too. I am totally loving our homemade tree.

Let me know what you think, and if you make one I would love to see it!

Rolled Paper Wreath with Pinecone Center

This year I wanted to make a Christmas Wreath. Now you need to know, I am not the standard wreath lover. I like wreaths that are different and grab your attention. So I went on a search!

I scoured the net looking for a wreath tutorial from recycled items. We read many sites and watched a few You Tube videos, but my favorite was the video by Jenna DeAngeles on You Tube. She gives very good clear instructions and she funny too! I have the video linked at the bottom of this post for you, so should you wish you can make one too!

Here is one of the two wreaths I made. The other was made as a gift! I did do them a little differently than the tutorial - I only used two rounds of rolled paper per wreath and I used 3 different sized pinecones for the center. I also used 2 record albums as the back, which worked perfectly for guiding my paper roll placement. I used a ring on the record as the gluing line and when the front was all done, I flipped it over, glued rustic twine on for a hanger and covered it up with another record. I love it, especially because the pages in the wreath are from a musical dictionary.

It looks pretty cool against a window when the sun is shining! I didn't want to put it outside because we get a lot of wind and rain here through the winter & I don't want it to get wrecked :)

The original video by Jenna is right below. Thanks a lot for reading, please feel free to comment,

Thrifty Finds - Ribbons & Trim

For the first post here I wanted to share some photo's of a large bag of ribbon & lace trims that I purchased at a thrift store the other day. I have to find some neat ways to use them, if you have any ideas, please let me know!

Try to guess how much I paid for the bag...I will let you know at the end of the post :)

When I opened up the bag (it was large) I noticed a few extra goodies that I hadn't noticed at the thrift store. See the baggie full of Christmas Ornaments? The pack of tiny hats? I wondered if the previous owner had been making ladies miniature hats.....

Some of the ornaments are pretty cute - very 70's / 80's. There is even a clay bear that says "Merry Christmas Grandma and Grandpa 1988" on its belly. Unfortunately the ear is broken.

Digging further into the pile brought me to the blue basket you see in this photo. There are also various scraps of fabric too. The funky shiny purple ribbon you see near the bottom feels like it was made from plastic bags - I have never seen this type of material before.

I found a pink basket too - with some lace trim already applied...Another set of projects perhaps?

Just for fun I included a photo of one of the price tags. It was from a store named Woolco. I haven't seen a Woolco in ages. According to the web, Woolco Canada ceased operation in 1994. Funny how I could still recognize thw famous "W." (What a Price!!)

Did you guess that I paid $2 for the whole bag of goodies? If you did, you were right!

Thanks for reading! As always, please feel free to comment :)
